Whatever happened to Avril Lavigne?
While the pop legend made waves in the early 2000s with hits like, “Girlfriend, “so hot,” and “here’s to never growing up”, she seemingly disappeared from the spotlight after a while. Of course, some fans chalked this up to a conspiracy theory of the real Lavigne being dead and the one that is alive being a body double, but the truth is a lot more heartbreaking than that.
In fact, during a recent interview with Billboard Magazine, Lavigne admitted to not feeling well early in 2004 and facing problems with fatigue. She was also in pain a lot and went to several doctors in hopes of getting a diagnosis. This eventually led to her finding out she had Lyme disease and being bedridden for the better part of 2 years.
“I had accepted that I was dying,” Avril told Billboard. when opening up about her battle with Lyme disease over the last 2 years. “And I felt in that moment like I was underwater and drowning, and I was trying to come up to gasp for air. And literally under my breath, I was like, ‘God, help me keep my head above the water.‘”
Fast forward to 2021 however and Lavigne is now doing much better. She even released an album in 2019 and has been teasing the release of another album for months. Fortunately for Lavigne, her album teases have had fans on the edge of their seat and eager to see what the singer/songwriter comes out with next. They are probably also interested in the little easter eggs that are likely hidden throughout the music.
Lavigne even admitted during the interview with Billboard that her song, head above water, was inspired by her time with Lyme disease. “I’ve had the time to be able to just be present, instead of being, like, a machine: studio, tour, studio, tour,” Lavigne claimed during the interview “This is the first break I’ve ever taken since I was 15.”
In the end, it will be interesting to see what little goodies await fans in Lavigne’s newest album and it should be worth the wait. It is also nice to see the singer back on her feet again after an extended period of sickness. There are a lot of musicians that wouldn’t have taken that time away to get better and she should be commended for it.Follow us!
