The campaign for recalling California Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom has almost reached their goal of the 1.5 million signatures that is needed to hold a special recall election.
The campaign has received national coverage and support by high-ranking Republicans. But The White House is not supporting the recall and is voicing that opposition.
According to a tweet sent out by the Press Secretary Jen Psaki; “clearly opposes any effort to recall @GavinNewsom.”
In addition to sharing a commitment to a range of issues with @GavinNewsom from addressing the climate crisis to getting the pandemic under control, @POTUS clearly opposes any effort to recall @GavinNewsom
Randy Economy, a senior advisor and official spokesman for the Recall Gavin Newsom campaign, released a statement in response to The White House’s opposition to the campaign.
“We would appreciate if the White House and the Federal Government would leave the business of deciding the Recall of California Governor Gavin Newsom, to the People of California. We have collected 1.4 of the 1.5 million signatures required under law that will mandate a Special Recall Election. We do not need the White House Press Secretary or President Biden to drive partisan politics into the recall campaign. Californians will no longer be divided and misled by political stunts like the one performed inside the White House Press Office on Tuesday,” said Economy.Follow us!
