The Green Bay Packers will take a linebacker in 1st round of the NFL Draft3 minute read

We have many players who are either Packer veterans or just veterans in the league going into free agency. Of course, some will be resigned. But the aging players that are showing signs of slowing down, will most likely find work elsewhere or retire.

We are very thin at basically all linebacker positions. Blake Martinez (ILB), Kyler Fackrell (OLB) and B.J. Goodson (ILB) are all entering free agency.

Goodson and Fackrell have been virtually invisible. But Martinez has comfortably taken over for longtime linebacker AJ Hawk. He’s been near the top of the league almost every year for tackles since being drafted in 2016. Personally, with how thin we are already at linebacker, I think Martinez deserves to be brought back.

However, the chatter coming from the front office is that they want to start fresh when it comes to linebackers. So, all of the free-agent linebackers, I believe will not be brought back. As do most, our defensive coordinator Mike Pettine uses linebackers in many of his different looks and packages. It is a big need. And seeing how deep this wide receiver draft class is, I’m fine with getting a LB in the first.
