Alyssa Milano launches #SexStrike to protest heartbeat bill & it completely backfire3 minute read

Pro-choice and proclaimed “feminist” Alyssa Milano launched a hashtag movement on Twitter late Friday night in favor of abortion rights called #SexStrike. The attempted purpose of the movement is to protest the new “Heartbeat” bill that was just signed on Tuesday by a Georgia Governor Brian Kemp by not having sex.

Our reproductive rights are being erased. Until women have legal control over our own bodies we just cannot risk pregnancy. JOIN ME by not having sex until we get bodily autonomy back. I’m calling for a #SexStrike. Pass it on.

We can LOVE sex and fight for our bodily autonomy. There are lots of alternatives to cis men. Protect your vaginas, ladies. Men in positions of power are trying to legislate them. #SexStrike

The bill in protest is called “Living Infants Fairness & Equality Act” or “LIFE” and prevents abortions when the babies heartbeat can be detected. Which is typically around 5-6 weeks. It also criminalizes crossing into another state to seek an abortion where it is still legal after a heartbeat is detected. The legislation does include an exception for rape, incest and if the woman’s health is at risk due to the pregnancy.

Milano is only one of the growing list of liberals in Hollywood that are boycotting working in the entire state of Georgia if the bill goes into law. The bill isn’t set to go into effect until 2020.

Opinion

It seems as though they didn’t think the whole #SexStrike thing through. Practicing abstinence and non-premarital sex will prevent unwanted and accidental pregnancy thus driving down abortions. So the whole idea of protesting in favor of abortion, by lowering the risk of having one is kind of pointless. I just want to thank every woman who is practicing the #SexStrike. This is going to make abortion obsolete, and that’s a great thing!
