Late yesterday evening President Trump announced that he has called off the meeting with the Super Bowl champions Philadelphia Eagles at the Whitehouse. Now why would he do that? Well, it seems he did this to play to his hardcore conservative base.
President Trump released the following statement…
“The Philadelphia Eagles are unable to come to the White House with their full team to be celebrated tomorrow. They disagree with their President because he insists that they proudly stand for the National Anthem, hand on heart, in honor of the great men and women of our military and the people of our country. The Eagles wanted to send a smaller delegation, but the 1,000 fans planning to attend the event deserve better.”
I like playing to your base. But come on uninviting a whole football team due to a few players kneeling during the National Anthem? Why not invite the whole team, and devote some time to the players who disagree with your (Trump’s) policies? I get that likely those players are so intertwined with hate they won’t listen. But that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t try to open a dialogue. That would have looked so great if he specifically invited the players who didn’t want to come.
This whole situation is very disappointing for me. I thought these types of temper tantrum’s were done since were in the second year of his presidency.
