So I binged watched the Netflix series “13 Reasons Why” over this weekend, and wanted to do a review because I really enjoyed it, so let’s jump into it. For those who don’t know what the show is about here is a brief synopsis

The late Hannah Baker explains why she committed suicide to her high school peers through a collection of cassette tapes she left behind.

A co-worker told me about this show, I hadn’t even heard about it prior to that. I’m always looking for new shows to watch, and normally I will just have the show on while I’m working, or writing. But this one I couldn’t do that, I was fully indulged into this show. I would pick up my phone to do something and it would just sit there in my hand, until I eventually gave in and just stopped doing everything else and just sat back and watched the show. Which speaks volumes to how good this show is.

When I first started watching the show, about two episodes in I knew it was something special. Again, I got so engulfed in the storyline that I forgot that I was even watching a show. At times I felt as though I knew the characters. The story is extremely easy to follow and I didn’t find myself getting confused at all, many shows that have a lot of characters with each having their own individual storylines, it’s easy to get confused. But that was not an issue, the show is written very well. I think one of the biggest appeals to this show is that it is very easy to relate to, each one of us has experience being bullied one time or another. Some more than others, myself I was home schooled for most of my life, but did experience bullying from time to time. Some of the scenes are a little awkward sometimes but overall the show is amazing and I would HIGHLY recommend it.

Since the show is based on a girl committing suicide, it was apparent that at some point we would probably see her actually do it. And to be honest I was a bit intrigued on how they would show it, if it would just be a cut away scene, or shot in a first person point of view type angle. But either way I didn’t even think about the fact it would make me feel squeamish. But man was I wrong. I’m not the type of person that has a weak stomach but I literally had to turn away and not watch while the suicide scene was happening, it was really disturbing.

13 Reasons Why has been renewed for Season 2!
