There is a total of 20 players who’s contracts are up heading into next season. Among those Packers free agents there are a number of which in my opinion we absolutely need to resign, and some who we need to let go. Let’s take a look at each player…
Who we need to resign
- Defensive Back: Micah Hyde
Micah Hyde is an absolute all around play-maker and team player. He has played corner, safety and punt returner for us throughout his career as a Packer.
- Tight End: Jared Cook
It’s a real question mark if the Packers will resign Jared Cook, as Ted Thompson is very stingy when it comes to resigning veteran players. But Cook proved his worth in the playoffs, he is a fantastic tight end and target for Rodgers.
- Linebacker: Julius Peppers
I think this is really up to Julius, if he chooses to continue his football career, I believe we will resign him for another season.
- Linebacker: Nick Perry
Perry continues to show his worth, he played most of the season with a broken hand and a club on his hand, yet he still racked up 11 sacks and an interception.
- Guard: T.J. Lang
Lang has been a staple in our offensive line since 2009, it would be foolish to let him go.
- Center/Guard: JC Tretter
Tretter is a great security blanket for our offensive line, he can play both center and guard when called upon.
- Wide Receiver: Geronimo Allison
I really like Geronimo, maybe I have a soft spot for him as he is from my city, Tampa, Florida. But he is a great receiver and seems to have repore with Rodgers.
- Punter: Jacob Schum
You maybe thinking, ‘really, a punter?’. But yes, we struggled so much with our previous punter Tim Masthay, and Schum had a hell of a season.
- Linebacker: Joe Thomas
I think the Packers will resign Thomas as he did start every game for us this season and he was a tackling machine.
- Running Back: Eddie Lacy
I’m a big Lacy fan, but he has really really struggled the past two seasons with his weight, which in turn really has many questioning his passion for football. This is hard, the Packers really need to sit down with Lacy and have a true talk with him to see if he is serious about his career.
- Running Back: John Crockett
I’ve made it known how much of a fan I am of Crockett, unfortunately it seems I’m alone on that. We had him as our third back, and he even was a primary back in a few games when Lacy and Starks were struggling with injuries. I would love to see Crockett be our second back, but I’m not sure if they’ll resign him.
- Running Back: Christine Michael
I think Michael really could be a starting running back for us as he was in Seattle. But with the way the draft is looking to be so stacked with running back talent, I’m not sure if we’ll spend the money to resign him.
We can do without
- Tackle/Guard: Don Barclay
DON BARCLAY IS UTTER GARBAGE! HE NEEDS TO BE LET GO WITHOUT A DOUBT!
- Long Snapper: Brett Goode
- Linebacker: Datone Jones
- Linebacker: Jayrone Elliott
- Running Back: Don Jackson
- Fullback: Joe Kerridge
- Linebacker: Jordan Tripp
- Defensive End: Christian Ringo
